Brace for a slew of sequels at theaters in 2011 (USA Today)

No fewer than 27 sequels are headed to the multiplex this year, according to a study by Box Office Mojo. ... And that doesn't include spinoffs, TV adaptations and films based on board games like Battleship, Clue and Monopoly, all bound for theaters.
The study suggests "Hollywood is dipping into the well of past glory more than ever," says Brandon Gray, founder and president of the tracking firm. "It's truly unfortunate that story is held in such little regard, when that's what sells the picture more than any other element."
Amen, Brother! The article says these represent almost 1/5 of the films with wide-release this year. Ughh!!! This just really bums me out.
